On-road parking in Anna Nagar; 40 for cars, 20 for bikes – The Times of India

Chennai: Anna Nagar, whose roads are usually encroached by illegally parked cars, could soon improve as Greater Chennai Corporation has unveiled a new parking policy.
Launched as a pilot, it will involve demarcated parking and no-parking zones on a 43.6km stretch and will include interior streets where residents without parking slots will be allowed to park for a fee.
For cars, it will be 40 per hour for on-road parking and 20 per hour on open ground or in multi-level parking spaces. For bikes, it will be 20 for roadside parking and 10 for MLP or open land, while for lorries and heavy vehicles, only on-street parking is allowed at 60 per hour. GCC and CUMTA are working to identify and create parking spaces in collaboration with landowners.
Second Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Third Avenue in Anna Nagar and Shenoy Nagar’s Pulla Avenue will be among the parking zones for floating traffic, while some interior roads within Shanthi Colony, East Anna Nagar, and West Anna Nagar will house residential vehicles. GCC is considering providing a monthly pass to residents.
A special purpose vehicle created to execute the project will have powers to tow or clamp vehicles in no-parking zones.
GCC commissioner J Kumaragurubaran said work will begin soon.
