OMFED to install milk ATM at AIIMS for patients, attendants | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: To modernise milk distribution and reduce plastic waste, Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) announced plans to install a milk ATM in AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
The automated milk dispensing system, aimed at providing convenient access to pasteurised milk for patients and their attendants, marks OMFED’s entry into digital milk vending in the city. The federation initiated the tender process for the installation, with technical bids scheduled to open on April 29.
“We are planning to install several milk ATMs across the state, starting with hospitals,” said Vijay Amruta Kulange, managing director of OMFED. “This initiative will not only ensure 24/7 availability of fresh milk but also contribute to our environmental conservation efforts,” he added.
According to the tender notice, the installation will commence within 10 days of issuing the work order and is expected to be completed within two months. The milk ATM is projected to be operational by July 10, providing round-the-clock access to quality milk. OMFED’s move comes as part of its broader modernisation efforts to improve service delivery and maintain its position as Odisha’s leading milk producer and distributor, according to Kulange.
An OMFED official highlighted the environmental benefits of the initiative. “The automated dispensing system will significantly reduce plastic pollution by eliminating the need for plastic pouches. Consumers can collect milk directly from the machine, similar to water ATMs,” he said.
Success of the milk ATM in AIIMS Bhubaneswar could pave the way for more such installations across the state. “We particularly focusing on hospital locations for future installations to ensure easy access to fresh milk for patients and healthcare workers,” said an OMFED official.
“The initiative is expected to streamline milk distribution while contributing to environmental sustainability through reduced plastic usage,” said the official.
