Oil Tanker Explosion Kills One, Injures Two in West Champaran District | Patna News – Times of India


Patna: One person was killed and two others were seriously injured when an oil tanker exploded in West Champaran district on Sunday. The injured were rushed to a hospital.
Police said the deceased was identified as Daroga Mukhiya (48), a native of Satbhirwa Ward no. 10 under Majhaulia panchayat.
Police said the incident occurred near the ethanol plant gate of Majhaulia sugar factory.
The tanker exploded when gas wielding was being done on a parked tanker. Daroga was passing by on a cycle when the explosion happened and his body was blown to smithereens, eyewitnesses said.
After the incident, local residents staged a protest for around two hours near the sugar factory, demanding compensation for the victim. The police had to use a mild force to disperse the agitating people. The police took custody of the body and sent it to Government Medical College and Hospital, Bettiah for postmortem.
“The injured have been identified as Tufani Alam, son of a welding shop owner Mukhtar Mian, and welding mechanic Sikandar Alam. Both are residents of Majhaulia village,” said Sadar SDPO, Vivek Deep.
Trainee DSP-cum-SHO Bairiya police station, Amarkant said the condition of both the injured are stable. The tanker had registration number of Nagaland.
“The protesters were demanding compensation for the deceased’s family. They were pacified after assurance by the district administration. Prima facie, it appears that the blast occurred due to overheating of the tanker during the welding,” added Amarkant.
