Odisha’s Night Temperatures Set to Plunge by Up to 4°C: IMD Forecasts Cold Snap |

Bhubaneswar: IMD has predicted a significant drop in night temperature across the state, with mercury levels expected to fall by 2°C to 4°C over the next two to three days. Over the past 48 hours, several regions have already experienced a slight dip in minimum temperature.
G Udayagiri, a hill station in Kandhamal district, recorded the state’s lowest temperature of 14°C early Wednesday morning, with several other locations reporting temperatures around 15°C.
“A shift to northerly and north-westerly wind patterns by Saturday is likely trigger this temperature drop,” said Sanjeev Dwivedi, scientist at the regional IMD centre. He added that clear skies would further contribute to fall in mercury levels.
In the past 24 hours, isolated locations across the state saw a decrease of 1°C to 2°C in minimum temperature. However, Jagatsinghpur and Koraput districts reported isolated rainfall during this period.
Former IMD regional centre director, Sarat Chandra Sahu, predicted a continuing downward trend in night temperatures, with a sharp fall expected around Dec 21. While the IMD has forecast isolated fog in some areas this week, Sahu suggests minimal fog development in the coming days. IMD has issued a dry weather advisory for the next six days.
