Odisha sets vision for top five economy with focus on basic amenities, inclusive growth

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhion Friday said Odisha’s ambitious vision is to position itself among India’s top five states economically by 2036, its centenary year, while ensuring quality basic amenities of bijli, sadak, and paani (electricity, roads, and water) for all citizens and jobs for all.Speaking after chairing a consultative workshop on ‘Vision 2036 and 2047′ at Lok Seva Bhawan, Majhi announced that in a first-of-its-kind initiative, Odisha has employed artificial intelligence to analyse over 3.2 lakh proposals received from citizens and non-resident Odias, adhering to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Jan Bhagidari’ vision.“The vision document is a roadmap for the dreams of 4.5 crore Odias and a promise for future generations,” said Majhi, revealing that the draft is nearly complete, as he nears one year of his office on June 12. The plan, dubbed ‘36 for 36′ by the CM earlier, will implement 36 flagship programmes across various sectors, including economy, industry, education, health, and infrastructure.The state aims to become a $500 billion economy by 2036 and reach $1.5 trillion by 2047, serving as a crucial growth engine for a developed India. The state govt envisions Odisha as India’s gateway to East and South-East Asian nations through port-led development. “Infrastructure, skill development, ease of doing business — we will do everything necessary to establish industries,” Majhi said.Deputy CM Pravati Parida highlighted the focus on women’s empowerment, ensuring equal rights and safety across sectors by 2036. Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said various stakeholders contributed to the blueprint for development.Following this state-level workshop, which saw participation from ministers, administrators, and voluntary organisations, three regional workshops are scheduled in Sambalpur, Balasore, and Jeypore.The vision documents for 2036 and 2047 represent comprehensive plans for transforming Odisha into a prosperous, industrially advanced state while maintaining focus on quality healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities for all citizens.Law minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said extensive consultations were held with intellectuals, various civil organisations, social workers, educators, public representatives, environmentalists, and civil society members to finalise theOdisha Vision 2036 and 2047 document.”We are collectively working towards building an Odisha that is economically prosperous and ensures social justice. The aim is to establish the state as a leader in human development indices,” he said.
