Odisha Prepares for High-Profile Events with Tightened Security Measures | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Three high-profile national events are lined up in the state over the next three months. In attendance will be President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Hence, the state police headquarters does not want to leave anything to chance and has asked SPs not to make any compromise on law and order.
The SPs have been asked to intensify their efforts in crime prevention and conduct targeted operations against repeat offenders to prevent any untoward incidents during the events.
“It is a proud moment for Odisha to host three big events. We will ensure that no embarrassing incidents or heinous crimes occur anywhere in the state during the stay of the VVIPs in our state. Efforts will be made to maintain law and order during the visits of the top dignitaries. All SPs and DCPs of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack have been asked to remain extremely watchful and launch special drives against habitual offenders,” a senior police officer said.
PM Modi, Shah and a host of other dignitaries will spend three days in Bhubaneswar for the DG/IG conference from Nov 29 to Dec 1. On Decm 4, the Indian Navy is scheduled to exhibit a grand show of its maritime might and capabilities on the sea along the Blue Flag Beach in Puri where President Murmu will be in attendance.
Besides, the state will for the first time host the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Bhubaneswar from Jan 8-10 next year. Murmu and Modi are scheduled to attend the big event.
Sources said police stations across the state have been directed to gather intelligence about troublemakers and take prompt action against them. Efforts are on to nab wanted criminals. SPs of Maoist-affected districts have been instructed to step up vigil as any unpleasant incident during the big events may cause embarrassment to the Odisha govt.
For a ‘safe city’ mission, the commissionerate police last week launched ‘Operation White Wash 1.0′, targeting property offenders, drug peddlers, bootleggers, absconding warrant offenders, and other violators of the law. According to senior police officials, their objective is to maintain law and order ahead of the DG/IG conference and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
