Odisha Mining Officer Arrested for Disproportionate Assets in Major Vigilance Operation | Bhubaneswar News
Keonjahr: Odisha’s vigilance department on Thursday arrested junior mining officer Padmanav Hota on charges of amassing disproportionate assets following searches at multiple locations across the state.
The searches, conducted on Wednesday, covered seven locations in Keonjhar, Bhubaneswar, Bhawanipatna, and Jajpur, including Hota’s office and residential premises. Hota was serving under the deputy director of mines, Keonjhar.
According to a press release, the searches unveiled substantial assets, including three multi-storied buildings, with one four-storied structure measuring 5,800 sq ft in Bhubaneswar and two flats registered under different names. The officials also discovered 14 plots, a five-acre farmhouse with assets worth around Rs 70 lakh, bank deposits exceeding Rs 53 lakh, cash worth Rs 1 lakh, and 300 grams of gold ornaments.
When questioned about the source of these assets, Hota failed to provide satisfactory explanations, leading to his arrest. The raids were conducted under a search warrant issued by the special vigilance court in Bhubaneswar.
A case has been registered against the accused, who was produced before the court today. Further investigation is underway to uncover additional assets and possible connections.
