Odisha houses over 3 lakh PVTGs, minister informs Lok Sabha | Bhubaneswar News

Kendrapada: Minister of state for tribal affairs, Durgadas Ulkey, informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday that Odisha is home to 3,00,436 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) residing in 65,724 houses. Nationwide, the PVTG population stands at 4,52,2806, occupying 10,93,561 houses.
Responding to MP Sasikanth Senthil’s question, Ulkey revealed that while no separate enumeration of tribes other than Scheduled Tribes has been conducted since the 1951 Census, the ministry has initiated a habitation-level data collection exercise through the PM Gati Shakti mobile application. This effort aims to estimate PVTG population figures and identify infrastructure gaps under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN).
In response to another question by MP Geniben Nagaji Thakor, the minister highlighted the progress of the Eklavya Model Residential School scheme, launched in 2018-19. Of the 715 sanctioned schools, 476 are currently functional, benefiting approximately 1.33 lakh students.
The National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation continues to provide concessional loans to eligible Scheduled Tribe persons for income generation activities, furthering the govt’s commitment to tribal development.
