Odisha Government Unveils Comprehensive Strategy to Halt Distress Migration from 11 Districts | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Odisha govt announced a multi-pronged strategy to tackle distressed migration from 11 vulnerable districts following a high-level meeting chaired by chief secretary Manoj Ahuja here on Wednesday.
After reviewing govt initiatives, as per decision of a taskforce led by deputy CM KV Singh Deo on Oct 28, the chief secretary told officers concerned to implement convergence mode employment programmes guaranteeing 200 to 300 workdays annually, formation of a comprehensive database of migrant families, provision of debt relief facilities under various govt schemes, better enforcement of anti-migration laws, and immediate employment opportunities through multiple departments, including MGNREGA, forest, and Mission Shakti for migrant-prone workers, among others.
“Our focus is on creating sustainable livelihood opportunities within the state,” the chief secretary said. The panchayati raj department will lead the initiative, coordinating with various departments, including agriculture, horticulture, and fisheries. Surveys revealed that a significant number of families or individuals from 11 districts, including Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, and Subarnapur, migrate to other states for work. District collectors from these districts participated in the meeting.
