Odisha Government Tests Subhadra Scheme with ₹1 Transfer to Beneficiaries |

Govt tests Subhadra transaction with ₹1 transfer to accounts

Bhubaneswar: State govt on Sunday transferred Re 1 to the accounts of eligible beneficiaries of Subhadra Yojana to test the transaction’s success. It was done to ensure that money is transferred successfully to the accounts of beneficiaries, and is a continuous process, official sources said.
Participating in the Subhadra Swagat Padyatra — a procession to welcome the scheme — deputy chief minister Pravati Parida said, “Till the last beneficiary gets the benefit of Subhadra scheme, registrations will continue. There is no scope for any doubt about the implementation of the scheme, which is aimed at empowering women. Over 60 lakh women have already registered for the scheme. Those registered on or before Sept 15 will receive the first instalment of Rs 5,000 on Sept 17 (when the scheme will be launched by PM Narendra Modi).”
Thousands of women, along with deputy CMs Parida and KV Singh Deo, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi, BMC mayor Sulochana Das and senior officers took part in the padyatra here, which started from Giri Durga temple at Kharvela Nagar and concluded at Rama Devi Women’s University.
Over 10,000 padyatras were taken out across the state ahead of the scheme’s launch. Under the scheme, the state govt will provide Rs 50,000 cash assistance to eligible women over five years, with two instalments of Rs 5,000 each to be transferred on International Women’s Day and Akshaya Tritiya every year.
Mayor Das said there is a need for more clarification on how the amount can be used by beneficiaries. “Many beneficiaries have doubts over how the money can help in their empowerment. The future of 70 lakh Mission Shakti members has also become uncertain now,” she said.
In response, Parida said, “The opposition knows how to criticise. The overwhelming response the scheme is getting across the state answers all doubts. BJP govt will increase the number of Mission Shakti members from 70 lakh to 1 crore.”
