Odisha chief minister Mohan Majhi announces cash incentive for Paris Olympics athletes | Bhubaneswar News


BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister Mohan Majhi announced on Monday a cash incentive of Rs 15 lakh each for hockey player Amit Rohidas and javelin thrower Kishore Jena, who will represent India in the Paris Olympics.
Majhi said this incentive would encourage them to perform very well in the Olympics and bring glory to the country.
“They have made Odisha, including their native places, proud.Their strong willpower, hard work, perseverance, and good performance will inspire new talents in the state. I wish them good luck,” he added.
“The state government is committed to providing all necessary help, including financial assistance and infrastructure, to hone talents in sports,” he added.
In 2023, the Odisha government had given a cash award of Rs 1.5 crore to Kishore Jena for his outstanding performance in the Asian Games-2023, which was organised in Hangzhou, China.
He bagged a silver medal and confirmed his berth in the upcoming Paris Olympics-2024.
Kishore’s personal best of 87.54m helped him secure the silver medal. Kishore, who hails from Puri’s Brahmagiri block, had secured 5th place at the World Athletics Championships held in Budapest last year.
