Odisha assembly winter session: Comprehensive security measures in place

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the winter session of state assembly on Tuesday, DGP Y B Khurania reviewed security arrangements on Monday. A three-tier security plan has been chalked out, which includes monitoring through CCTV cameras and the deployment of quick response teams. “The robust arrangement has been implemented to ensure safety, security and strategic deployments to prevent unauthorised access,” the DGP said.
“The commissionerate police have made extensive arrangements for the assembly session.As many as 30 platoons of police force and over 300 officers will be deployed during the session. Adequate security arrangements have been made for dharna place (outside the assembly),” the DGP added.
For the security inside the assembly premises, Special Security Battalion personnel have been deployed to maintain security within the inner cordon, while for peripheral security, Armed Police Reserve (APR) forces are positioned at the periphery and near barricades. During the assembly session, which will be held from November 26 to December 31, crime prevention and intensive measures have been initiated across the city. In addition to that, a traffic advisory has been issued and 16 routes have been diverted, official sources said.
Police have made strategic deployments of security personnel, including at railway stations, vital points and during night hours around the assembly. Besides, special arrangements have been made at the chief minister’s residence to prevent incidents like self-immolation, including rooftop deployments. CCTV cameras have been installed at all critical points for surveillance. Anti-sabotage checking and bomb detection and defusal squad have been utilised, with the deployment of first aid and ambulance services for emergencies.
The state police have also deployed active intelligence teams in and around the assembly to gather advance information. Separate teams have been mobilised for different morchas to monitor public activities, sources said.
The review comes amid an array of visits by dignitaries and high-profile guests to Odisha in the next few days.
Besides the winter session, an all-India conference of director generals of police and inspector generals of police will be held in the city from November 29, which PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend during his three-day visit to the state from November 29 to December 1. Home minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will also be present in the city for the conference, along with the DGPs of all states and Union Territories, and chiefs of all the security forces. “The state will provide all logistical support for the conference and tight security arrangements will be ensured,” Khurania said.
President of India, Droupadi Murmu, is also scheduled to visit Odisha for five days from December 3 to 7 and attend several events in Puri, Bhubaneswar and Mayurbhanj. Murmu will grace the Navy Day celebrations by the Indian Navy at Blue Flag Beach in Puri on December 4 and will also offer prayers at Jagannath Temple.
