Odisha assembly to go paperless soon | Bhubaneswar News
BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy announced on Saturday that the entire assembly will become paperless. All old and new MLAs will be provided with training for the use of technology. The process is expected to be completed within two years.
Padhy stated that the National eVidhan Application (NeVA) has taken responsibility for the complete digitization of the Odisha Legislative Assembly.The work has already started. A training program was organized on Saturday for officers of District Information Centres (DICs) to familiarize them with the NeVA process, she added.
“Our target is to make the state assembly paperless. I hope we will achieve this target within two years. We plan to provide training to MLAs through NeVA. The previous government had taken steps to make the assembly’s work paperless. Tablets have been installed at each MLA’s table in the assembly so that paper will not be needed,” said Padhy.
She mentioned that legislators and the staff of the assembly will become acquainted with the technology for the smooth operation of the state assembly.
Previously, the BJD-led government had presented a paperless budget. The assembly has also made questions and answers available on the NeVA portal for public consumption.
Official sources mentioned that the digitization will create an environment-friendly workspace in the state assembly. It will provide details regarding all activities inside the assembly, including question hour, presentation of bills, and discussions on those matters. The project will be accelerated with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
She inaugurated a state-level training camp on capacity building in NeVA in the state assembly here on Saturday.
Assembly Secretary Dasarathi Mishra said the digitization process will ensure transparency in the functioning of the House and save time for both government and opposition parties. It will provide information from the district level to all MLAs in the state, he added.
