Koraput: Samaya Sahu is 20 but is fast moving up the political ladder. The youngest lifetime executive committee member of the New Hampshire Democratic Party (NHDP), these days Samaya is busy campaigning for Kamala Harris ahead of the November 5 US presidential election.
Samaya’s family hails from Mayurbhanj district. His father, Manas Sahu, who lived in Rayagada for several years, moved to the United States in 2000 and now runs a restaurant.Born in the US, Samaya became interested in politics at an early age.

“Since childhood, I used to attend political campaigns in the run-up to US elections. That way I developed an interest in politics. My first brush with politics was at the age of three-and-a-half when I attended Barack Obama’s campaign in 2007 with my father,” Samaya told TOI.
He attended Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2015 as well as Joe Biden’s, four years later.
Currently pursuing graduation from Dartmouth College, Samaya made history in July 2022 when he became the youngest officer in NHDP’s history, working with fellow members to organise Democratic initiatives across New Hampshire.
His passion and dedication to mobilising voters have drawn attention in the run-up to the presidential election. Recently, he represented the state as a delegate at the Democratic Convention in Chicago and is now engaged with the youth wing of the Democratic Party for the 2024 presidential campaign.
“In my campaigns, I talk about the challenges and opportunities for youths in the US and advocate for the policies of Kamala Harris,” said Samaya.
