Odia Film-Makers Urged to Embrace Courage and Innovation at State Film Awards |



Bhubaneswar: Governor Raghubar Das called for Odia film-makers to be courageous and make cinema based on innovation while presenting the 32nd, 33rd and 34th State Film Awards here on Sunday.
“Odisha is a state full of natural beauty. Filmmakers should tell powerful stories through cinema,” Das said, adding, “The film award ceremony is not only a unique moment but also a remarkable achievement in the glorious tradition of Odisha cinema, which symbolises the artistic excellence, cultural glory and social reflection of the journey of Odisha cinema for eight decades. Odia cinema is associated with the state’s vibrant art, rich cultural heritage, folk arts and importance of values.”
At the ceremony, writer, director and playwright Anant Mohapatra, cinematographer Srinivas Mahapatra and actor Jayiram Samal received the prestigious Mohan Sundar Dev Goswami Award for 2020, 2021, and 2022, respectively, for their lifetime contribution to Odia films. The award includes a cash award of Rs 5 lakh and a citation.
Upon receiving the award, Samal said, “Though it is late, I am very happy today and thankful to the jury who selected me for this award. I wish the Odia film industry achieves new heights.”
Deputy chief minister Pravati Parida and culture minister Suryabanshi Suraj were also present at the award ceremony, among others.
