Odia books need a global platform: Union minister

Bhubaneswar: Odisha, a knowledge-based society, should aim to globally popularise its rich literary heritage by 2036 through AI, digitisation and technology, said Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday.
While unveiling the English translation of ‘Kishor Chandranand Champu’ by Kabisurya Baladev Rath in Bhubaneswar, Pradhan highlighted the importance of works like ‘Stutichintamani’ by Bhima Bhoi and ‘Lakshmi Purana’ by Balaram Das, emphasising their messages of humanity and against caste discrimination. He called for a collective effort to promote Odia literature both nationally and internationally.
“There is a need to resolve to make Odia language and literature popular across the country and the world,” said Pradhan. He acknowledged the bravery of historical figures like Jayee Rajguru and Veer Surendra Sai, urging research into local customs such as Suna Besha.
He suggested that ‘Kishor Chandranand Champu’ should be translated into all Indian languages to broaden its reach.
