Non-Hindu Woman Barred from Jagannath Temple Amid Controversy |

Non-Hindu woman stopped from entering Jagannath Temple

Bhubaneswar: A non-Hindu reportedly tried to enter Jagannath Temple in Puri on Tuesday but was stopped by the police before she could enter the 12th century shrine.
Sources said a woman who was speaking in a foreign language was stopped by security personnel as she was entering the temple after crossing Singhadwar, taking advantage of the huge rush of devotees on the last Tuesday of Kartik month. The police immediately took the woman out and asked her not to make a similar attempt in future.
No case was registered as the woman was counselled about the temple rules and allowed to go, sources in Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) said.
As per the rules of the SJTA, non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple. Such devotees can have a glimpse of the deities during Rath Yatra every year.
