Nominated by club, Nana Patole may run for MCA president | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Eyebrows are raised over the Mazgaon Cricket Club decision to appoint Congress state unit president Nana Patole as its representative to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
Though Patole remained non-committal, it is believed that he may contest the MCA presidential election that is scheduled to be conducted on July 23.
The MCA president’s post has been lying vacant since the untimely death of Amol Kale, who passed away in New York on June 10.
In the past, former CMs Sharad Pawar of the NCP and Prithviraj Chavan and Vilasrao Deshmukh of the Congress, and former union minister Gopinath Munde of the BJP have represented the Mazgaon Cricket Club in the MCA.
Deshmukh came to lead the MCA in Nov 2011, having defeated former captain of the national cricket team Dilip Vengsarkar by 47 votes. Deshmukh had succeeded Sharad Pawar, who was at the helm of affairs of the MCA for over a decade.
“The Mazgaon Cricket Club has appointed me as its nominee on the MCA. I am told that the presidential election is scheduled to be held on July 23. I am yet to decide about it. My well-wishers feel I should contest the election,” Patole said.
If Patole contests the poll, it will be an interesting event to follow as, besides him, Shiv Sena (UBT) secretary Milind Narwekar, a trusted aide of party president Uddhav Thackeray, NCP (SP) general secretary Jeetendra Awhad, and MCA vice-president Sanjay Naik may also decide to contest.
