No vindictive action over Kunal Kamra parody song: Maharashtra govt tells Bombay high court | Mumbai News – The Times of India

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government on Wednesday told the Bombay high court that it has not taken any vindictive action against individuals who retweeted, shared, or re-sang comedian Kunal Kamra’s parody song video.
The court was hearing a PIL filed by a law student seeking directions to prevent FIRs or coercive action against citizens who had engaged with Kamra’s satirical content online. The petitioner also sought protection for Kamra himself.
However, the high court appeared disinclined to entertain the plea, noting that Kamra had already initiated legal proceedings in connection with the matter.
The bench granted the petitioner the liberty to approach the court “if occasion arises in future.”
