Nitish’s Pragati Yatra triggers political slugfest between RJD, JD(U) | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: A day after CM Nitish Kumar announced to embark on the Pragati Yatra from December 23—marking his 15th yatra in 19 years—a political slugfest kicked off between the RJD and JD(U) on Wednesday.
During his yatra, starting from West Champaran, the CM along with ministers and officials is scheduled to review the progress of development work. However, the opposition questioned the purpose of his yatra, saying many such yatras taken out in the past failed to resolve the problems of people.
The Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, who is currently touring the state under his “Karyakarta Darshan sah Samwad Karyakram”, on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the CM’s yatra, describing it as his farewell tour. “This is not a ‘Pragati Yatra’ but ‘Alvida Yatra’ of Nitish Kumar,” Tejashwi told reporters in Araria, adding, “The BJP is in no mood to tolerate him any further.” Stating that nothing is going to work in his favour this time, Tejashwi reminded the journalists about how Nitish, at his election rally in Purnia during the 2020 assembly polls, declared that this was his last election.
Questioning the purpose of his yatra, Tejashwi said the CM is to spend Rs 225 crore. “Why is a CM required to spend such a huge amount of taxpayers’ money to interact with the masses?” he asked, adding that the yatra is going to serve no purpose.
The JD(U) reacted strongly by stating that Tejashwi is unable to get candidates for his party and hence he has gone on an “Ummidwar Khojo Yatra” under the guise of meeting party workers. Tejashwi began his yatra from Samastipur, the birthplace of Karpoori Thakur, on September 10.
“Tejashwi is desperately searching for candidates as no one wants to board his sinking ship. It is bound to sink in the next assembly elections,” state JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said. He also asked the opposition leader to disclose the source of his property worth Rs 472 crore in Patna and a bungalow worth Rs 156 crore located at Prince Colony in Delhi. “Nitish Kumar stands for development and progress, but Tejashwi represents destruction,” Kumar said, adding that the opposition leader had forgotten courtesy in politics.
The BJP praised the CM for undertaking various yatras, which proved helpful in chalking out strategies for drawing up the development map of the state. “Nitish Kumar launched his state-wide tour with ‘Nyay Yatra’ in 2005, which ultimately led to a change in power in the state,” state BJP spokesperson Manoj Sharma said, adding that the journey from ‘Nyay Yatra’ to ‘Pragati Yatra’ highlights Nitish Kumar’s track record of effective good governance in the state. He added that all yatras of Nitish had positive objectives while Tejashwi’s yatra is only focused on getting votes by dividing the society.
