Nitish meets grieving family of Manmohan

Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday visited the grieving family of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi. Singh had passed away at AIIMS-Delhi on Thursday evening. Chandrababu Naidu, chief of another NDA partner Telugu Desam Party had also paid respects to the late leader in person. The Bihar govt had earlier declared a seven-day state mourning to honour the late PM.
Widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic reforms, Singh’s last rites were performed on Saturday. Nitish, who travelled to the national capital earlier in the day, visited Singh’s residence and spent around five minutes offering condolences to the bereaved family. Sources said Nitish expressed his heartfelt sympathies during the visit. He had also cancelled his scheduled yatra to Muzaffarpur and Vaishali to mark his respect for the departed leader.
A JD(U) spokesperson described Nitish’s visit as a “courtesy gesture,” recalling how Singh, as Prime Minister, declared the 2008 Kosi floods a “national disaster” and promptly sanctioned a Rs 1,000 crore relief package. At the time, Nitish led the NDA govt in Bihar.
