BHUBANESWAR: To facilitate the commercialization of its patented technologies, the National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NITR) on Wednesday signed a technology transfer agreement with a biomedical startup at Rourkela for an anti-bleeding solution. These patented medical solutions promise to transform emergency haemorrhage control.
NIT Rourkela has been granted patents for two medical solutions developed by Devendra Verma and his research team from the Department of Biotechnology and Medical Engineering.These innovations were Nano-fibrous Polyelectrolyte Complex for Rapid Hemorrhage Control and Self-assembled Nano-fibres as Hemostatic Agent.
The startup company’s product, StopBleed, is capable of controlling bleeding faster than existing solutions, marking a significant advancement in emergency care. Sabir Hossain, co-founder of the startup, is an alumnus of NIT Rourkela.
It was the first technology transfer initiated by NIT Rourkela’s Intellectual Property Innovation Centre (IPIC), established in 2022. With around 50 granted patents in the last two years, IPIC fosters innovation and provides comprehensive support for the creation, protection, and management of intellectual property at the institute, said the official sources.
K Umamaheshwar Rao, director of NITR, commended both parties, emphasising the significance of this startup-academia collaboration for societal benefit.
