NIRF ranking: IIT BBS fails to remain in top 100 Indian institutions | Bhubaneswar News
BHUBANESWAR: IIT Bhubaneswar has failed to remain in the top 100 higher education institutions in the country. It was revealed through ‘India Rankings-2024’ under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) released by Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi on Monday.
This national institution could not improve the overall rank this year too.It could manage to get a place in the rank band of 101-150 in NIRF’s overall category. Last year it received 91st rank against 65th in 2022, 58th in 2021, 56th in 2020 and 46th in 2019.
Rank of the institution has been gradually falling from 46th in 2019. Both IIT Hyderabad and IIT Bhubaneswar were established in 2008. But IIT Hyderabad’s rank is 12 against IIT Bhubaneswar’s poor performance. In 2019, IIT Hyderabad had received 22 rank against IIT Bhubaneswar’s 46th rank.
Shreepad Karmalkar, director of IIT Bhubaneswar, said a team will analyse the NIRF ranking in a detailed manner. “Our perception index has increased. We have recruited more teachers. Because of this, the number of research publications of the institute are increasing. It will help us to improve our ranking next time,” he added.
The premier Utkal University, a state public university, found its place in the rank band of 151-200 like last year It was in the rank band of 101-150 in 2022. CV Raman Global University and OUAT Bhubaneswar found place in the 151-200 rank band.
However, three higher education institutions from Odisha have improved their rankings over the years and found places among top 50 institutions of India. In overall category, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) deemed to be university got 24th rank, while KIIT deemed to be university and NIT Rourkela received 28th and 34th ranks respectively.
In the university category, Utkal University got a place in the rank band of 101-150 against last year’s 93rd rank, 88th rank in 2022 and 87th rank in 2021. However, the university got 42nd rank in the newly added State Public University category.
SOA and KIIT have improved their ranks in University category. SOA secured 14th rank followed by KIIT (15th). SOA has been securing top rank among the universities of the state consecutively for nine years.
In engineering category, NIT Rourkela and SOA got 19th and 26th ranks respectively. Other institutions were KIIT University (37th rank), IIT Bhubaneswar (54th rank), CV Raman Global University (96th) and VSSUT Burla in the rank band of 101-150.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar has improved its ranking in the medical category from last year’s 17th rank to 15th this year. SOA and KIIT received 21st rank and 25th rank respectively. In the dental category, SOA and KIIT bagged 9th and 22th ranks respectively.
Ranking was announced for 16 disciplines/categories. These were overall, universities, colleges, research institutions, engineering, medical, dental, law, architecture and planning, agriculture and allied sectors, management, pharmacy, innovation, open university, skill university and state public university. Last three categories have been added this year.
