Niramaya Centres to Operate 24/7 for Seamless Access to Free Medicines in Odisha | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: ‘Niramaya’ centres, the free medicine counters in govt hospitals, will remain open 24 hours a day, housing and urban development minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said here on Wednesday. The minister made the announcement after conducting a review of Odisha State Medical Corporation (OSMC) in Bhubaneswar.
He added, “The govt will ensure that people can easily obtain all the medicines prescribed by govt hospitals at Niramaya medicine counters across Odisha. An official squad will monitor and conduct surprise checks at these counters from time to time to ensure smooth running and availability of medicines.”
He advised expediting the purchase and distribution of medicines to ensure timely delivery to patients. He suggested hiring the necessary staff to strengthen the corporation’s operations in the future.
The minister emphasised making Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital at Baripada self-sufficient by providing all necessary medical equipment, beds and facilities. He directed the authorities to manage the institution effectively to provide quality healthcare to the people of Mayurbhanj and surrounding areas, starting from January.
OSMC managing director Puma Tudu spoke about procurement and distribution of medical supplies and equipment for district hospitals, primary health centres and all govt medical colleges in the state. The corporation continued its efforts to deliver medicines to patients in govt hospitals during and after the Covid-19 pandemic.
She highlighted the corporation’s efficiency in implementing govt-sponsored programs like Khushi, Sampurna, and the distribution of medicated mosquito nets.
