Night temp to rise over next 4 to 5 days; fog to continue

Bhubaneswar: The IMD forecast on Saturday said the night temperature would continue to rise for next four to five days. At the same time, dense or shallow to moderate fog is likely to prevail at isolated places in some districts. A dense fog warning will continue in 16 districts over the next two days, said an IMD bulletin.
The forecast came as night temperature saw a gradual rise across the state over last three days.On Saturday, Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum of 22.4°C marking a sharp 5.8°C rise in night temperature compared to normal. Similarly, Balangir at 21.7°C recorded the highest rise of 9.4°C from normal for the day. Sambalpur, at a minimum of 20.1°C recorded the second highest rise of 6.8°C from normal for the day.
Dense or shallow to moderate fog continued at several places during the day. At least six towns or cities, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, witnessed dense fog, causing repeated road or rail traffic trouble for locals until late morning hours. The trouble was no different on the NH passing through the city. The other towns that witnessed dense fog during morning hours include Chatrapur, Gopalpur, Jajpur, Angul, Nayagarh, and Phulbani.
Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist at the regional IMD centre, said the rise in night temperature was primarily due to change in wind pattern and the influence of an anti-cyclonic circulation. Dwivedi said the minimum temperature rose by an average of 2°C to 4°C at several places in the state over the last three days. He said the day temperature also rose. Former director of the regional IMD centre, Sarat Chandra Sahu, said both the wind pattern and continuation of fog conditions supported rise in night temperature and departure of cold in the state. He said such a trend would continue for at least a week.
