Nigerian national arrested in Hyderabad’s Kacheguda for drug possession | Hyderabad News
HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Task Force and Kacheguda police arrested a Nigerian national, Ngwuchukwu Godwin Ifeanyi, alias Godwin, in Kacheguda on Monday for possession of drugs. Police seized 7 grams of cocaine from him, which he intended to deliver to a client in the city.
Godwin had been previously arrested twice by the Excise Department for drug-related offences and was currently out on bail. Following his earlier arrests, he relocated to Mumbai to evade surveillance but continued his drug trade from there, according to YVS Sudheendra, DCP Task Force.
Dead drop delivery method used
Police revealed that Godwin used a “dead drop” method for drug transactions, a tactic aimed at concealing identities. Under this system, the supplier and receiver never meet or know each other. Instead, the supplier leaves the drug at a pre-decided location, from where the buyer or user picks it up.
Godwin’s background and drug network
Godwin first came to India in 2015 on a student visa and enrolled in a pharmacy college in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. However, he soon got involved in the drug trade after being influenced by his Nigerian associates already engaged in narcotics smuggling.
Despite his visa expiring in 2016, Godwin continued to stay illegally in India. He established a drug network, procuring cocaine in bulk from suppliers based in Mumbai and Bangalore and distributing it to users in Hyderabad.
Police operation and arrest
Based on a tip-off about his visit to Hyderabad, police laid a trap and apprehended him. He was found in possession of 7 grams of cocaine at the time of his arrest. Following his capture, he was remanded to judicial custody, and further investigations are underway.
