NIA, home ministry to lead Rana probe: CM

Mumbai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with the Union home ministry, will lead the probe, and Mumbai police will assist in the investigation into the role of Tahawwur Rana in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, CM Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday.
Speaking to the media, Fadnavis said while Ajmal Kasab was hanged, there was “still a burden on our hearts about those who conspired to attack Mumbai.” “It gives me satisfaction that the Centre was successful in getting those who conspired to face the Indian justice system,” he said. Asked about allegations made by some about the role of the RSS, Fadnavis shot back, saying he does not respond to “idiots.” “When Kasab was hanged, we proved it was a Pakistani conspiracy. We could record David Headley’s statement online, but we are happy the conspirator has been brought before the Indian justice system,” he said.
Fadnavis said the NIA will decide where to go and what to do. “All decisions will be taken by the NIA and the Union home ministry,” he said.
Deputy CM Ajit Pawar also termed Rana’s extradition “a major breakthrough” and said it would help unravel crucial details of the conspiracy behind the 26/11 attacks.
