NH-16: Uneven surfaces on NH-16 pose accident risk for drivers | Bhubaneswar News

One of the stretches is a 200-metre long one near Satsang Vihar, which is one of the important portions of the highway due to movement of mixed traffic. The uneven surface has been created near the intermediate point of Rasulgarh and Vani Vihar flyovers on the NH-16.

The uneven surface has been created near the median in a manner that even drivers of heavy vehicles might lose control while passing over it.Experts said it is dangerous especially for drivers of two- and three-wheelers as they might face fatal accidents.
“The bump must have been created due to heat generated by tyres of vehicles. The heat might have melted the asphalt and created the bumps on the highway. This needs to be rectified immediately,” said Syed Maqbool Ali, former member of National Road Safety Council. He said such bumpy surfaces are dangerous since they don’t come into view immediately and might leave a driver without any chance to avoid it.
Urban planner Piyush Ranjan Rout attributed the bumps to poor quality of road work. “Road-rollers must be used properly after the overlaying work so the highway surface is compact,” he said.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has done the overlaying work on the part of NH-16 near Satsang Vihar recently to ensure a smooth riding experience for users. K Nageswara Rao, project director, NHAI, Bhubaneswar said the work has been done following due procedure. “We will look into the matter and take necessary corrective measures. Safety on the highway is our topmost priority,” Rao said.
