MUMBAI: A newborn baby girl was found abandoned in Andheri‘s Lokhandwala locality on Sunday morning. Pradeep Yadav, a passerby who saw the infant was still alive, quickly called the police control room by dialing ‘100’. Versova police said Yadav stayed with the baby until the police team arrived and took over. They also arranged for a caretaker to feed and care for the baby.
The control room received Yadav’s call at 9.53 am.The infant was found lying on a chocolate-colored pillow cover on the footpath. “The Nirbhaya squad immediately rushed to the spot and got the newborn in our custody before they rushed to the Jogeshwari Trauma Care Centre and provided medical assistance before rushing to the Cooper Hospital for further care,” said Versova police senior inspector Ganesh Pawar.
The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) instructed the police to transfer the child to an Andheri-based orphanage.
The police officer mentioned they are reviewing CCTV footage of the locality to identify and track the person who abandoned the baby girl. “The baby was found unharmed because of the passerby who reacted immediately. Meanwhile, the police team is also collecting details of all those who have delivered in the last two or three days at maternity homes in Andheri and neighboring locations to track the child’s mother,” said the officer.
