Newborn found in dustbin, mother and accomplice arrested

Belagavi: Kittur police arrested a couple on Monday for allegedly killing a newborn, born out of their premarital relationship and attempting to dispose of the evidence. The accused are Mahabaleshwar Kamoji, 31, and Simran alias Muskan, 22, both from Ambadagatti village in Kittur taluk.
SP Bhimashankar Guled said Kittur police on March 5 received information about a newborn girl being thrown into an open dustbin in Ambadagatti village. Initially, police registered the case under Section 94 of BNS (newborn baby destituting and causing to death). After completing the postmortem, police conducted the funeral of the newborn. However, three days later, the postmortem report revealed that the newborn had a fractured head. Following this revelation, police converted the case into murder.
Police probe unravelled the truth in the case. Mahabaleshwar and Simran were in a relationship for the past three years. Simran became pregnant and due to her body type, her pregnancy went unnoticed by the public and even her family. On March 5, Simran gave birth to a female baby in the bathroom of her residence in Ambadagatti village. To prevent the baby from crying, she covered the baby’s face and placed her in a small box, possibly causing the head fracture. Mahabaleshwar was guiding her through a video call during this process. Simran then threw the box with the baby into the open dustbin.
