New record in just 4 days: Hottest Aug day at 33.7°C

Mumbai: Day temperatures in the city for Aug hit an all-time high of 33.7°C on Thursday, shattering the previous record registered just days before, when the mercury touched 33.6°C on Aug 18. The hottest Aug day prior prior to that —at 33.5°C—was recorded on Aug 3, 2020.
Relief from the hot and humid weather conditions, though, seems to be in the offing. In its five-day forecast, beginning Friday, the IMD issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, indicating heavy rain at isolated places. For Thane, a warning for heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places has been issued. IMD officials said a low-pressure area has formed over the east-central Arabian sea off the Karnataka-Goa coasts. “It is likely to move gradually northwards during the next 24 hours,” said an official, pointing out that weather conditions currently felt like a pre-monsoon day.
The weather department had earlier said the break in monsoon that the city has been witnessing had led to a spike in temperatures, making it uncomfortably hot. Morning walkers had complained of excessive heat even in the early hours, which had been cool all through last month.
