NCISM halts digital ayurvedic CPD program | Mumbai News – Times of India

The National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has halted a digital Continuous Professional Development (CPD) project launched by the Maharashtra Council of Indian Medicine (MCIM) due to concerns over its cost.
The MCIM initiative aimed to modernize Ayurvedic education by offering a digital platform for practitioners to earn mandatory CPD credits. This platform was reportedly beneficial for all practitioners inclusive of rural and middle-class doctors, providing affordable and accessible online learning opportunities.
An Ayurvedic practitioner said, “This is a setback for the Ayurvedic community. Digital transformation would help practitioners stay updated with the latest advancements in the field.”
The MCIM’s project aligned with the government’s Digital India vision, allowing practitioners to complete educational activities such as interactive modules, webinars, and online courses to earn CPD points. Under NCISM policy, practitioners must accumulate 50 CPD points over five years.
The initiative offered a cost-effective solution, charging 1100 per point, significantly reducing expenses compared to traditional methods, and eliminating the need for travel and clinic closures.
The NCISM’s reconsideration of its decision could ensure the continued growth and development of the Ayurvedic medical community.
