Bhubaneswar: Arun Patnaik, the nephew of BJD president and former CM Naveen Patnaik, recently got married. Being the son of Naveen’s elder brother, Prem Patnaik, Arun was often considered a potential political heir to his uncle, who is unmarried.
Arun’s sister Gayatri Patnaik shared video clips and some wedding photographs of him in social media. “There is no joy like a sibling getting married,” Gayatri wrote.She named Arun’s spouse as Nadia.
As Naveen Patnaik continues to lead BJD and has served as Odisha CM for five terms in a row, discussions about his successor have been going on for quite some time now. Arun’s name has frequently surfaced in these conversations, given his family ties though Naveen has always maintained that people will choose his successor.
A management degree holder, Arun helps his father in family business and lives mostly in Delhi. One of the photographs showed Naveen’s elder brother Prem was present at the wedding, solemnized in The Netherlands.
In his first media interaction in Odisha in 2015, Arun had said he had no intention of joining politics while responding to media queries in Cuttack after the Patnaik family members signed documents to hand over Biju’s home Anand Bhawan to the state govt to convert it into a museum.
