The five-time former chief minister had never lost any assembly election since the first one he fought in 2000 and remained in power till the recent simultaneous polls. This would be the first time that Naveen will sit in the opposition bench.
Naveen said senior MLA and former minister Prasanna Acharya will be the deputy leader of opposition.
While ex-minister and former speaker Pramila Mallik will be the opposition chief whip, former minister Pratap Keshari Deb will be deputy chief whip of the opposition.
Speaking to media persons after the announcement, Acharya said BJD will play the role of a constructive opposition. “We will support any initiative which is in the people’s and state’s interest. We will oppose all anti-people initiatives,” the Rairakhol legislator said.
