Naveen attributes BJD’s electoral loss to BJP’s ‘false narratives’ | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Six months after BJD’s electoral loss, Naveen for the first time explained the reason for the defeat by attributing it to his party’s failure to effectively counter BJP’s “false narratives and bundle of lies.”
Hitting back, State BJP president Manmohan Samal said BJD and Naveen were still in shock over the defeat in the recent elections. “In the last 24 years, BJD did precious little for the state for which the people rejected them and blessed BJP to serve them. And BJP’s sole agenda is the overall development and growth of Odisha,” Samal said.
Although Naveen publicly acknowledged the electoral mandate and announced that a committee would find out the causes behind the unprecedented loss, his fresh statements during BJD’s 28th foundation day contradicted speculation about his close aide V K Pandian’s influence being a key factor in the party’s defeat.
In a video message, Naveen said, “Many people were asking questions about how BJD lost in the last elections and I will answer them today. We did not lose the trust of the people. BJP came to power by telling lies, making false promises and misleading the people.”
“Our mistake was that we could not counter the saffron party’s lies, negative campaigns and false narratives on social media effectively,” Naveen added, while urging his party workers to remain active on social media and counter the BJP’s ‘false and deceptive’ narratives.
While talking about the BJP’s governance in the last six months, Naveen highlighted public dissatisfaction with the rising prices of essential commodities. “The biggest gift of the BJP govt to the people of Odisha is the increase in prices of pulses, rice, oil and vegetables, among others,” Naveen said, adding that all sections of people, especially farmers, were suffering.
He reaffirmed the party’s fight against Centre’s alleged atrocities and to safeguard the interests of Odisha. When asked about his successor, the 78-year-old avoided answering the question and only said that BJD would continue to serve the people of Odisha for the next 100 years.
