Bengaluru: A much-anticipated meeting convened by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to address persistent grievances of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout (NPKL) allottees took a dramatic turn on Tuesday with members of NPKL Open Forum (group formed by site allotees) staging a walkout in protest.The forum members accused BDA commissioner N Jayaram of downplaying the layout’s deep-rooted issues and silencing those who have been demanding better facilities. The meeting was called, following directions from Karnataka Real Estate Regulatory Authority(RERA), which had received a slew of complaints from residents over the lack of basic civic infrastructure in NPKL — a flagship BDA project that’s been mired in delays for years.The forum members alleged the commissioner used most of the 20-minute session to push BDA’s side of the argument, claiming 90 per cent progress in a few blocks. They charged him for painting a misleading picture and stated: “The ground reality is opposite; most roads are barely motorable mud paths.“Tensions peaked when one of them pointed out the poor quality of asphalting in some areas. Instead of addressing the concern, the commissioner reportedly dismissed the feedback, questioning whether the resident had the technical expertise to assess such work.BDA officials also reportedly refused to allow forum spokesperson Suryakiran to speak, claiming he was not the actual allottee and did not have an authorisation letter. Although Suryakiran’s mother holds the allotment, and forum members cited RERA regulations that allow representation, the commissioner reportedly insisted on speaking only to direct allottees. In a statement released later, BDA charged the spokesperson with ‘raising irrelevant questions against the authority.”Channabasavaraja, president of NPKL Open Forum, said: “This meeting was meant to be inclusive and solution driven. But the commissioner refused to engage meaningfully and ignored the true intent of the RERA directive.” In response, commissioner Jayaram maintained that over 90% of infrastructure work in the layout was completed and blamed remaining delays on ongoing legal challenges related to land acquisition. A forum member said: “We will now explore other legal and public forums to seek justice.”Earlier in Feb this year, frustrations over NPKL reached a boiling point when Rajajinagar MLA S Suresh Kumar walked out of the petition committee meeting, protesting a comment by BDA’s team that he was being misled about NPKL project by the allottees of smaller dimension plots.
