Mysterious Wild Boar Deaths: 5 Carcasses Discovered in Abandoned Well | Bhubaneswar News
Keonjhar: Forest officials of Telkoi range recovered the decomposed carcasses of five boars from an abandoned well near Kardangi village in Keonjhar district on Friday.
After the post-mortem, they buried the bodies. It is yet to be ascertained when the boars fell into the well and died. Sources said that due to lack of food, wild boars and other animals are coming out of the forest and heading towards the villages to enter crop fields and orchards.
They are believed to have died of suffocation as they could not get out. Locals spotted the carcasses dloating in the well and informed the forest department on Friday.
As paddy is now ready for harvest, wild animals, mostly boars, come out of the forest and graze in the fields. Many times, hunters take advantage and hunt them using bombs and electric traps.
Forest official of Bimala section, Rashmita Shankhua, said the cause of death will be known only after getting the post-mortem report. The well belongs to a local and the farm is surrounded by forest.TNN
