MVA allies yet to begin seat-sharing talks for Maharashtra assembly polls: Shiv Sena (UBT) | Mumbai News – Times of India
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday stated that seat-sharing discussions have not begun among the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) allies for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.
Raut emphasized the equality of all stakeholders in the alliance, which includes Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (SP) and Congress, after successfully contesting the Lok Sabha elections together.
Talking to reporters, Raut highlighted the MVA’s performance in the Lok Sabha elections, where they secured 30 out of 48 seats, demonstrating Maharashtra’s resistance to giving the BJP a full majority.
He added, “Seat-sharing talks have not yet commenced – neither with the NCP (SP) nor the Congress. So the question of who will contest how many seats doesn’t arise. All are equal stakeholders.”
“There are 288 (assembly) seats (in Maharashtra). There will be no shortage of seats for anyone. Everyone will contest comfortably,” added Raut.
His comments came after a NCP (SP) leader quoted party supremo Sharad Pawar as emphasizing that the NCP (SP) agreed to contest fewer seats than its MVA partners during the Lok Sabha elections but hinted at a different approach for the assembly polls.
Raut also pointed out the high strike rate of NCP (SP) in the Lok Sabha polls, where it won eight of the 10 seats it contested. He mentioned that Shiv Sena (UBT), despite being the most targeted party by the opposition, managed to win nine out of the 21 seats it contested. According to him, the party’s strike rate could have been better, having lost two to three seats by a narrow margin.
Raut provided a summary of the strike rates, stating, “Of the three MVA parties, NCP (SP) strike rate was 80 per cent, the Congress’ strike rate was 75 per cent, while that of the Shiv Sena (UBT), which contested the maximum number of seats, was just 41 per cent.”
Overall, Raut’s statements suggest a united front among the MVA allies going into the Maharashtra assembly polls, with reassurance that seat-sharing will be handled equitably among them.
