Patna: Chairman of the Railway Board (CRB) Satish Kumar inspected the ongoing Muzaffarpur station redevelopment work late Wednesday evening. The station is being redeveloped as a world-class station on par with European stations at an estimated cost of Rs 442 crore. The new station building is likely to be functional by the end of the 2025-26 fiscal.
Kumar directed the railway officials concerned to maintain quality in the construction work. The multi-storied building of Muzaffarpur railway station, which falls under the Sonepur division of the East Central Railway (ECR), is being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
According to the ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra, the construction work on the three-storied combined station terminal building is almost complete. Around 31% of work on the north side of the main station building is completed so far as per the design and structure.
“The railways is providing two separate points for entry and exit of passengers to check the rush of passengers,” he said, adding that 33% of work on arrival and departure blocks of the station building has been completed.
The railways has completed construction work of a new ticket-booking office and enquiry counters equipped with all modern facilities at the southern end of the station building. “The railways is also building an elevated road at this end of the new station building of which 39% work has been completed,” the CPRO said, adding that a new foot-over bridge is being built to facilitate smooth movements of passengers.
The Sonepur divisional railway manager (DRM) Vivek Bhushan Sood said the railways will build a concourse area of the station building. “The Muzaffarpur station building terminal will have facilities like a modern waiting room, free WiFi, green solar plant equipped building, rainwater harvesting, water recycling plant, solid waste management and all other amenities required for the passengers,” Sood said.
