Man hacked to death in Puri, seven held

Bhubaneswar: A 52-year-old man was hacked to death by some miscreants while he was out for a walk at Hadagodi Sahi in Puri on Monday night. Police said rivalry between two families over setting up of a shop was the motive behind the murder. Puri police have arrested seven persons, of whom five are minors, while another four involved in the attack are on the run.“We have launched a manhunt to nab them,” Puri SP Pinak Mishra said. The murder weapon has also been seized from the spot.
The victim was identified as Puri resident Harihar Sahu. He was referred to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack where he succumbed to his injuries.
According to police, Harihar’s son, Kanhu Sahu, was the prime accused in the murder of one Dinesh Khuntia on Aug 8. Dinesh, who was earlier a tourist guide, had set up a sweetmeat shop, which was opposed by Pradeep Sahu, a member of the Sahu family. On Aug 8, Dinesh was returning home after shutting his shop when five persons attacked and killed him. Police had found involvement of Sahu family in Dinesh’s murder.
The SP said that the Khuntia family wanted to avenge Dinesh’s murder.
Of the seven persons arrested so far, one is Dinesh’s elder brother and another is his father.
