Murder convict escapes from Keonjhar dist jail | Bhubaneswar News
Keonjhar: A prisoner sentenced to life term in 2018 for his wife’s murder escaped from Keonjhar district jail on Saturday. The escapee has been identified as Paresh Munda (36), a resident of Upper Raigoda village.
Jail authorities said Munda, who was assigned to tend cattle in the garden, managed to flee during his work. Prison guards attempted to chase him and later raided his residence but could not trace him. The jail administration has filed a formal complaint with Town police station.
“Munda was initially arrested in 2014 for his wife’s murder. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in 2018,” said Manaswini Nayak, jailer. Sources said that Munda, who was aged 20 years at the time of the crime, had been granted parole in Aug.
IIC of Town police station, Shrikant Sahu, said, “We have registered a case following the complaint received on Saturday night. A search operation is underway. We believe the convict might have taken refuge in the forest near his village. We will apprehend him soon.”TNN
