MUMBAI: A tragic incident in Mumbai claimed the lives of a man and a 10-year-old boy after a section of an under-construction building collapsed. Civic officials reported that the collapse occurred on Sunday night at Kailas Business Park in the Vikhroli area.
The incident happened around 11.10 pm, shortly after heavy rains lashed parts of the city. Upon arrival, the fire brigade discovered that part of the building’s parapet and slab had fallen and some sections were dangerously unstable.
“Fireman removed the structures hanging precariously,” stated an official.
Before the fire brigade arrived, locals had already transported a 38-year-old man and the young boy to Rajawadi Hospital. Doctors declared both individuals dead upon arrival.
Just days earlier, on June 5, a similar incident occurred in the Mahim area, resulting in one fatality and another person being injured when a large portion of a single-storey building’s slab collapsed.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the onset of the southwest monsoon over Mumbai on Sunday, slightly ahead of the usual schedule. The heavy rains led to significant waterlogging in several areas, including Vikhroli.
