162 motorcycles seized for rash riding in overnight crackdown

Mumbai: In a special campaign against rash driving, Mumbai Police (West region) seized 162 motorcycles on Friday during an overnight crackdown. The police said they have registered 40 offences under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and have initiated action against 689 motorists under sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Among the locations where the crackdown was conducted were Kherwadi, Western Express Highway at Bandra East, and on Bandra-Kurla Complex Road. “We found motorcycles using modified silencers and have seized these two-wgheelers,” said an officer.
From Monday, the police said they are planning a joint crackdown on errant autorickshaws. “Meetings were conducted with the RTO (north region) and DCP (traffic police) to rope them in. Two teams will operate—one during the day and one at night—for the joint crackdown,” said an officer.
Space is also being allocated for parking the seized vehicles, officials said.
