MUMBAI: As temperatures soared to 36.2°C on Monday with high humidity levels, a road near the BMC headquarters appeared to have ‘melted,’ highlighting the growing impact of the intense heatwave sweeping parts of Maharashtra.
Jalgaon recorded the highest temperature in the state at a scorching 42.5°C, making it the hottest location in Maharashtra.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Mumbai, warning of a moderate risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and outdoor workers.
According to weather officials, dry and warm easterly winds are to blame for the sudden temperature spike, with the heatwave conditions expected to persist through midweek. The yellow alert remains in place until Wednesday.
