Mumbai airport customs seizes gold bars & foreign currency, one passenger arrested
Mumbai Airport Customs officials seized 247 grams of 24-karat gold, valued at Rs 21.96 lakh, from a passenger arriving from Bahrain and Daman on May 20-21

MUMBAI: Mumbai Airport Customs officials seized two major items during the night of 20–21 May 2025 under the Customs Act, 1962. Based on passenger profiling and surveillance, Customs officials stopped two incoming passengers who had arrived from Bahrain and Daman. During inspection, the officers found 24-karat gold bars weighing 247 grams. The gold was cleverly hidden under the advertisement sticker of a luggage trolley. The estimated value of the gold is Rs 21.96 lakh. In a separate incident, Customs officers intercepted a passenger about to fly to Bangkok. While checking his luggage, they found undeclared foreign currency worth USD 90,000 (about Rs 76.23 lakh), concealed inside a handbag. The passenger was arrested under the relevant sections of the Customs Act, 1962.Key highlights:Gold seizure:
