More than 1cr become part of Subhadra family in just over 6 months | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: In just over six months, the number of beneficiaries under Subhadra Yojana, govt’s flagship scheme for women empowerment, has surpassed the one crore mark.
“Today, the BJP govt fulfilled the promise of giving financial assistance to one crore women under the Subhadra Yojana as promised in the 2024 election manifesto,” deputy chief minister Pravati Parida said on Thursday when the govt disbursed Rs 117 crore among 2.30 lakh new beneficiaries under the fifth phase of the first instalment.
“All the above one crore women will receive the second instalment the day after on Saturday on the occasion of International Women’s Day,” Parida added, giving credit to Anganwadi workers and helpers for their role in achieving this milestone.
The deputy CM also announced a bonus of Rs 1,500 for Anganwadi workers and Rs 500 for helpers. “I am thankful to everyone who directly or indirectly helped us in achieving this milestone. With Subhadra, we can see a new face of women empowerment. We are hopeful of achieving the goals set in the Subhadra Plus scheme,” said Parida.
To mark this achievement, Parida, who also holds the women and child development portfolio, urged women across Odisha to light ‘Subhadra Deepa’ (earthen lamps) on the evening of March 7.
Since the launch of the Subhadra Scheme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sept 17 last year, more than 1.8 crore women have registered for the initiative. The scheme will disburse Rs 50,000 to over one crore women in five years between 2024 and 2029.
Parida also highlighted the govt’s goal in creating at least five ‘lakhpati didis’ in every village as part of its vision for Vikshit Odisha.
Expressing happiness over the number of Subhadra beneficiaries exceeding one crore, Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the scheme has become a significant symbol of women’s empowerment. “The rise of women power in Odisha is essential for the growth of Odia identity. The Subhadra scheme is a visionary initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” Pradhan said.
