Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an increase of Rs 1,000 in the monthly remuneration of cooks working under the PM Poshan (Mid-Day Meal) scheme, a govt release said. The govt also doubled transportation cost for Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP).
The monthly remuneration has been raised from Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000. The decision will impact over 1.12 lakh workers who prepare and serve meals to 42.45 lakh students in 50,618 primary and upper primary schools statewide.
“This increase recognizes the dedication and hard work of our cooking staff who ensure nutritious meals for students from Classes 1-8,” Majhi said.
Under the SNP, rice is supplied to anganwadi centres, while wheat is distributed to women’s self-help groups for take-home rations. Designated transportation agents handle the delivery of these essential food grains. However, the new rates will only apply to newly appointed transportation agents, not those currently under contract.
