‘Molester’ dies in custody, 6 of family booked for murder – The Times of India

Mumbai: Six members of a South Mumbai family were booked for murder following the custodial death of a 41-year-old man, Vishal Vishwakarma, who they alleged was stalking and molesting their six-year-old daughter.
Pydhonie police registered an FIR for assault and murder against the six members after post-mortem report of the deceased stated his death was unnatural. Police said the incident dates to Feb 15, when the family, staying at Khadak in Dongri, caught the accused, beat him black and blue, and then handed him over to the Pydhonie police.
“On Feb 15, we registered an FIR under Pocso and arrested the accused; but within a day, he was hospitalised,” said an official. He was rushed to JJ Hospital, where his condition deteriorated, and he died on Feb 16. The post-mortem report stated his death was unnatural.
“There were many other factors, such as the fact that he was a drug addict, weak, and had gangrene, but doctors opined that he died due to internal injuries caused by the beatings and hence registered a murder case,” said an official on condition of anonymity.
