Patna: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated the new terminal building of the Jayprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport in Patna and laid the foundation stone for the development of a new civil enclave at Bihta airport, located about 27km west of the state capital.The new terminal at JPNI Airport has been built at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore while the proposed civil enclave at Bihta will be developed at a projected cost of Rs 1,410 crore. Together, the two infrastructure projects involve an investment of Rs 2,610 crore and promise to provide a world-class experience to air travellers, an official said.Modi unveiled the projects during a brief ceremony at the JPNI Airport shortly after his arrival in Patna on a two-day visit to Bihar from West Bengal. On Friday, the PM is scheduled to address a public rally near Bikramganj in Rohtas district under the Karakat Lok Sabha constituency.CM Nitish Kumar, deputy chief ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha and shief secretary Amrit Lal Meena were among those present at the inaugural event. Earlier, the PM was received at the airport by governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Nitish Kumar and several senior BJP leaders.According to a civil aviation ministry official, the new terminal building at JPNI is spread over 65,150 square metres and is equipped with world-class amenities to accommodate 3,000 passengers during peak hours and handle up to one crore passengers annually. The proposed terminal at Bihta will cover 68,000 square metres and is designed to serve 3,000 passengers during peak hours and 50 lakh passengers annually until 2047.Following the inauguration ceremony, Modi led a massive roadshow, labelled the ‘Tiranga Yatra’, through the streets of Patna.After the roadshow, he held a nearly two-hour meeting at the BJP office with senior party leaders, including MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and state-level office-bearers.
