MNS suspends drive demanding use of Marathi

Mumbai: MNS president Raj Thackeray on Saturday instructed his party workers to temporarily suspend their campaign demanding Marathi usage in banks and other establishments, noting that they had successfully brought attention to the issue and await government action. MNS activists had been conducting visits to banks, and commercial establishments across the state, demanding use of Marathi language. In some instances, they reportedly attacked employees who did not communicate in Marathi.
Meanwhile, Sena (UBT) functionary Anand Dubey announced launch of Marathi-speaking classes for those who recently moved to Mumbai. Dubey put up hoardings in Kandivli saying, “Don’t be afraid… let’s speak Marathi… respect Marathi.”
